Battery Safety Part 1
Posted on 25 May 2017
In the United States alone, there are more than 9 million adults that use vapes/vaporizers; with the number of consumers increasing every year, some people are hesitant due to the dangers of batteries. There have been very rare cases of a battery exploding but when following the appropriate steps, this case can be easily avoided.
Let's start off with "Clones".
There are many devices out there by different companies and they come in all sort of shapes, sizes, colors, as well as materials- in fact, some devices actually contain 24k gold.
Often times, whether it is a designer purse, jacket- there will always be imitators. With vapes, people need to be more cautious of where they choose to purchase a vaporizer. That cheap mod may seem like a bargain but if it hasn’t gone through the proper tests it could prove to be a costly mistake. At NYX ECIGS, we only carry authentic merchandise- never do we sell second-hands or clones of any sort. Even our juices are all lab tested from California before being shipped to our stores. When purchasing a vaporizer, you should NEVER try to cut corners.
Correct way to charge your device
Whether it is an internal or external battery device, there's always a proper way to charge it. Make sure you're using the correct charging cable! At the Apple Store, they offer such things as an Apple 29w USB-C adapter that can charge your smartphone at a faster rate- when using it to charge your device... not so much. Adapters like this can actually overwork your batteries and possibly put it into thermal runaway. For external battery devices, you may choose to charge it with the USB charger that came with the mod but devices such as the RX 200, which can use up to 3 batteries, it is recommended to purchase an external battery charger. It's a faster, safer, and more affordable way to charge your batteries. Most mods will come with a USB cable but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is meant for charging purposes- in fact, some devices come with a USB cable solely for hardware updates.
Storage
Putting your device in temperatures that are either too hot or too cold can be harmful to your device, not to mention for your liquid as well. You should avoid storing your device in your car, on the plane, or under direct sunlight. In extreme heat, your device can get very hot and potentially heat up to a perilous level where on a plane or in a car, the juice in your tank can leak due to the air pressure change.
Correct coils
Most devices have limitations to certain ohms the mod can handle- in fact, this is very important when it comes to sub-ohm vaping. Always check the manual or seek help at NYX ECIGS as we are trained to be of assistance for any vape related questions!
Battery Amps
Never exceed the amps of your battery. This is a fundamental rule of battery safety. Take the discharge rate- also known as the amps of your battery, then divide your voltage level by coil resistance (ohms) and make sure you never exceed your battery’s amp rating.
Battery Case
Often times, people would carry spare batteries in case they have to quickly swap it out mid-day but it is crucial that batteries are stored properly. When carrying around loose batteries, it is important that they do not come in contact with any metal objects such as keys, coins, etc. as they can heat up to a dangerous level, causing short-circuit, leak, or even explode.
At NYX ECIGS, we offer full assistance to anyone- whether you are an existing client or not.
